Description

Valkyre:

In Norse mythology, a valkyrie (from the Old Norse valkyrja, meaning "chooser of the slain"[1]) is one of a host of female figures who choose those who die in battle. The valkyries bring their chosen who have died bravely in battle to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin, where the deceased warriors become einherjar. There, when the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens, and sometimes connected to swans.

Valkyries are attested in the Poetic Edda, compiled in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources; the Prose Edda and Heimskringla, written in the 13th century by Snorri Sturluson; Njáls saga, a Saga of Icelanders written in the 13th century; Völsunga saga, a legendary saga composed in the 13th century from earlier traditional sources; throughout the poetry of skalds, in a 14th century charm, and in various runic inscriptions.

The Old English cognate terms wælcyrge and wælcyrie appear in several Old English manuscripts, and scholars have explored whether the terms are derived through Norse influence, or an indigenous tradition from Anglo-Saxon paganism. Archaeological finds have been theorized as depicting Valkyries. Scholarly theories have been proposed about the relation between the valkyries, the norns, the dísir, and Germanic seeresses. In modern culture, Valkyries have been the subject of works of art, musical works, video games, and poetry.

Authors note: These are more post Ragnarok Cyber punk version of Valkyries.

Disclaimer:After The Ragnarok all Valkyries died together with their father Odin.So Freya merged Odin and Volva into a new entity Throne, and all that was left were corpses of Valkyries on the battlefield. She merged their will and Ghosts with Throne, thus giving them New Life.In aftermath they got new chrome bodies so they can continue to collect fallen Heroes on the battlefields.
